Ify (born Ifeoma Emechete) was born in Lagos, Nigeria and was raised in Nigeria, Brooklyn, NY, and Memphis, Tn. She is a powerhouse that speaks her mind in the Hip Rock tracks she writes. Her voice embodies the rasp of Rock & Roll and the sultriness of unconventional hip hop. Her catchy lyrics make bystanders move and nay-sayers chant, "Yes!" Ify is influenced by artists such as Fela Kuti, Kelis, Michael Jackson, Blondie, Tina Turner, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Korn, Pink, and M.I.A. She writes using her life experiences and struggles. Ify grew up around music. She attended a creative and performing arts school that nurtured her creativity. On many occasions, she would buy herself tickets to concerts she would attend alone. This gave her the courage to allow her inner artist to emerge. Ify says, "Some think being different could be considered a job, but when you are born with the knowledge that you are unlike many you encounter, It dawns on you that this is a way of life. It is nothing like a job. It's only survival. I've survived this long the way I am, but I want to be the voice for others who are scared and like i used to be before I embraced my querks. In doing so, I want to use my love for music and performing to let the world to hear my voice before it is my time to go. I've seen alot and I know people will be able to relate to my stories when they are ready to listen. On the other hand, they don't have to be ready, because I am!" Ify is currently recording her first album, Candy Canes & Crutches.
